A response from Boeing

You might remember that last week I identified someone on YouTube named "demorra" who has the title "Internet Strategist" and is posting pro-Boeing videos to YouTube.  I have sent questions to both Boeing and the user "demorra" asking about them, and received an answer from Boeing which I said I would publish here.

To my question: "Can you tell me if you or any of your consultants working on this campaign have paid demorra or anyone else to put up videos like this?"

Boeing spokesperson Douglas Kennet responded, "we checked around and could not find anyone who has heard of "demorra".  Suffice to say that there are many people with no affiliation to Boeing who hold strong views on the tanker competition."

I'll wait to hear back from "demorra" themselves.

Contrary to popular belief, Boeing has paid me absolutely nothing for posting the news stories on YouTube. I posted the news stories after talking with several Boeing employees and community members who were frustrated with the company's response.

They wanted information and advocacy. They wanted action. The public affairs unit at Boeing was not moving fast enough. So, I stepped in.

I must admit that I have a vested interest in this issue. My wife is a low ranking manager for Boeing. We own Boeing stock through her 401K program.

At the same time, I am concerned about the outsourcing of American jobs and the growing dependence on foreign suppliers, especially in the defense industry. Every nation which intends to preserve its independence must primarily rely on its own capacity to make and maintain the sinews of war. Even Adam Smith saw the importance for a country to ignore the benefits of free trade in the production of weapons for its own defense.
